Which Side Of The Road Should You Run On?

When you are walking or running along a public road you need to decide which side of the road that you are going to be on. The two major concerns that you need to worry about are which side of the road will be safer for you, and what are your legal obligations?

When running down the road, you should always run facing traffic (except where local laws state otherwise) because it is much safer for you. Any time that you are a pedestrian and are not on a sidewalk or crosswalk, then you should be facing traffic.

You want to run facing traffic because…

  • …you will know when somebody is coming.
  • …two heads will have an opportunity to avoid a collision (you and the driver).
  • …in some areas, it is illegal to run or walk with traffic at your back.
  • …if everybody did this, then you would not have to worry about passing somebody going in the other direction while two cars are also vying for road real estate at the same time.
  • …drivers expect you to be running towards them and predictability makes you safer.

When you plan your routes in an area where traffic drives on the right side of the road, try to make them go in a (generally) counter-clockwise direction so that you will be facing traffic and will not have to cross traffic as often. If traffic moves along the left side of the road, then you should run in a (generally) clockwise direction.

Trails and running paths take traffic directly out of the equation. If you are on a sidewalk or trail, then you should run on the same side as traffic moves along the roads (right side in the United States, left side in the United Kingdom.) This will make it less confusing if you are passing cyclists, roller bladers, or other pedestrians. Again, predictability will make you safer.

Your Workout Clothes Are As Important As The Exercise You Do

What types of workout clothes you put on is important. Because they not only affect your level of comfort while exercising, they affect your motivation and energy levels as well.

Nothing disrupts a workout more than uncomfortable clothing. I’m sure you’ve been there before – you’re on the treadmill and halfway through you have to press the stop button due to bunching, chafing or the clothing getting into your way……

If your workout clothes are ill-fitting and poor in “quality”, you feel uncomfortable and out of place. They bother you and you don’t have the feeling that they belong to your body plus you can’t move with ease and relaxation. It’s tough to have a good workout when you’re not comfortable in your clothes.

What Workout Clothes To Choose?

The most basic thing for workout pants is the fabric and cut. They must allow you to do all of your regular moves without any restrictions.

The Cut

When trying on workout pants, simulate some of the basic movements of your exercise to make sure they allow for a full range of motion. Try a squat, lunge or even a kick.

Then, you would want to see whether the pants flatter your bodytype. Baggy sweats or tight legging aren’t in anymore. You should go for the looser-fit pant to be comfortable. How loose depends on your workout.

For cardio exercises like running, jogging or walking, you should go for pants that are snug but not skin tight.

For Yoga or Pilates, try the boot-cut pants that are snug at the knee and have a slight flare down to the ankle. This cut has the bonus of staying snug when your legs are inverted. Another choice is the capri pants which touch the leg just below your knee and come in tight leggings or looser-fit varieties.

And because you’ll be doing lots of bending and stretching in these 2 exercises, it’s better for you to put on low-waisted pants that naturally sit lower because they can minimize chafing on the stomach and and won’t cut into your waist.

Also, pants that sit lower on the hip are more flattering since the lower waist helps lengthen the look of your torso.

Come to think of it, what about high-waisted pants?

You need them when you workout outdoor, for instance trail running or hiking and need to carry a backpack. If a waist is too low, it can sit right where the bottom of the pack lands, which could lead to rubbing and thus irritating your skin.

When you’re working indoors, short pants are better so you won’t feel hot.

Fabric And Color

Fabric

Go for fabric that can reduce jiggle, absorb sweat and even protect muscles.

Most fabrics consist of some form of a polyester or cotton and Lycra combo. Some studies have shown that Lycra compresses various muscle groups, which can help reduce muscle fatigue and speed up recovery time.

Note: Lycra is spandex fiber that’s lightweight and soft, but stronger and more durable than rubber. It can be stretched over 500% without breaking, and can be stretched repeatedly and still recover its original length.

The latest fabric technologies bring various versions of moisture-wicking fabrics. They come with one layer made of a synthetic and the other of a cotton blend. When you sweat, the fabric spreads the moisture onto a larger area, allowing it to dry quickly.

I’m sure you don’t want sheen on your clothes? Get the matte varieties because they have zero sheen and hence won’t catch the light. They are also generally a thicker weave than the sheen types, so last longer and won’t show wear as quickly.

Color

I know you probably prefer black…..

But no harm branching out into bright, feminine colors. White isn’t bad either.

OK, if you’re a real die-hard fan of straight-black (because of its silhouette-slimming effect?), you don’t have to totally discard the color. You can go for colored side panels like black with a light yellow/green/pink stripe down the side. Not only is it fashionable, but breaking up the color with a side-stripe has a slimming effect because it draws the eye inward.

To fully understand what a home equity line of credit or a HELOC is, you need to chunk this into two terms: home equity and line of credit.

* Home equity – is the market value of your home less the total amount of debts that are associated with or registered to it.

Note that with a home equity line of credit, the “health” of your credit limit largely, if not entirely, depends on the market value of your home. If you lender senses that the value of your home significantly decreases or if they have sufficient reason to believe that you cannot keep up with your monthly payments, they may either freeze your account or reduce your credit limit.

In both cases, you should talk with your lender. Ask them how you can restore your account. You should be able to prove to them that the value of your home has not considerably decreased. You should also show to them that you are still well in the way of being able to make the necessary payments on a regular basis. Your argument would bear more weight if you can show some proof. So provide documentation if you must.
